.."I'd hold my grandaughter's hand"_ the simple & small truths of life bring to life the beauty that is so sought after_ & ur straightforward words say this with the power of love..many thanks..
I get a very interesting and different sense of time from this...so often when we say "I wish I had time" we mean we wish that we could squeeze more things into today, perhaps were not so busy with things. But you evoke a different longing, the sense of not having much time left in one's life-- if only I could live longer, I could wait for my love; if only I could live to see my grandchild be born and grow, I could hold her hand; if only I could live longer to see space travel, I could travel to the stars. Truly a wonderful poem.
Grandchildren do grow so fast that it seems no time from when we are holding their hand to the time they are walking out the door holding a suitcase to began their journey in time...and the beat goes on.

Just like you -- every line makes me think of the line "if only I had the time" ... I enjoy this, as I have many grandchildren.
So much, it seems to me, rest on the word "had" - to me it creates a different tense for each line. Very moving.
Absolutely lovely!
Wishful thinking often has a tendency to carry a few thorny truths of what should be. Great haiku!

There's rarely enough time for the best! Nicely done!

Don't you hear me calling you?
Write your letters in the sand
For the day I take your hand
